Port Renfrew Salmon and Halibut Fishing


​Port Renfrew is 72 km west of Sooke via Highway 14, a narrow, winding road that reveals some truly scenic ocean vistas.  While Port Renfrew is noted for its accessibility to excellent salmon fishing, increasing numbers of anglers appear to be more interested in thedependable halibut actionthat is available, especially offshore around Swiftsure Bank.

​At the entrance to the Juan de Fuca Straight, lies the legendary Swiftsure Bank, a marine ecosystem full of, Salmon, Pacific Halibut and other bottom fish.  With its high concentration of baitfish larger fish are drawn to this area to feed heavily as they pack on the pounds in preparation for spawning.

The banks off of Port Renfrew offer Chinook, Coho, Sockeye, Halibut, and other bottom fish.  We bottom bounce for Halibut with pilchards, herring, octopus, squid, salmon bellies, as well as a assortment of other jigs.

We troll for Chinook, Coho, and Sockeye with herring, anchovies, spoons, plugs, and hootchies.  Limits come fast when fishing offshore, vast amounts of baitfish school up in these waters which provides a primary feeding ground for the large schools of Chinook, Coho and Halibut.
